Introduction
I am a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Grand Canyon University and currently serve as a middle school educator in New Orleans. My professional passion centers on supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of children and adolescents, particularly those facing behavioral challenges, trauma, and systemic barriers to success.
Through my counseling training and educational experience, I have developed a strong interest in trauma-informed care, school-based counseling, and culturally responsive practices. My goal as a future counselor is to create safe, supportive spaces where young people feel heard, valued, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges.
Professional Experience + Education
I am an educator and counselor-in-training dedicated to supporting the academic, emotional, and behavioral development of children and adolescents. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand Canyon University while working as a middle school English Language Arts teacher in New Orleans. My professional journey in education has allowed me to witness firsthand how emotional and environmental challenges can impact students’ ability to learn and thrive.
My goal as a future counselor is to create safe, supportive environments where young people feel heard, understood, and empowered to overcome obstacles. I am particularly interested in trauma-informed counseling, school-based mental health services, and advocacy for youth who may face behavioral, emotional, or systemic challenges.
I am currently completing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand Canyon University. Through my graduate training, I am developing knowledge and skills related to counseling theories, psychological assessment, ethical practice, and evidence-based interventions. My coursework has helped me understand the importance of culturally responsive counseling and the role that mental health professionals play in supporting individuals across diverse backgrounds.
Prior to pursuing my graduate degree, I completed my undergraduate education and began my career in teaching. My experience in education has provided a strong foundation in working with children and adolescents and understanding the academic and behavioral factors that influence student development.
I currently serve as a middle school English Language Arts teacher at Arthur Ashe Charter School in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this role, I work with students to develop literacy, writing, and critical thinking skills while also supporting their social and emotional growth. I focus on building strong relationships with my students and creating a classroom environment that encourages respect, structure, and positive behavioral expectations.
In addition to my teaching role, I am developing my counseling skills through practicum experiences where I support students facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Through these experiences, I assist with counseling sessions that focus on helping students build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen social development.
